Smooth Flow
Teide as a Sunset Transfer
Cross Teide with your luggage and plan one TF-24 sunset viewpoint before the final descent north, while there is still enough daylight for a calm hotel check-in.

Family Travel Strategy
A 7-day family route that begins on the easy southern coast, crosses Teide into the north, and returns through La Laguna and Anaga. The plan keeps Siam Park and Loro Parque on separate days, uses the change of hotel to cut repeated driving, and leaves Masca optional if the road or the children have already had enough.

Local Perspective
Seven days are enough to show children several very different versions of Tenerife, but not enough to visit every saved place. This route chooses a southern beach base, one waterpark day, a Teide crossing, two nights in the north and a north-east return. Each day has one main reason to leave the hotel.
The first two days stay around the south: arrival, a protected beach and Siam Park. That gives the family time to settle before the first mountain road and keeps the waterpark away from another expensive attraction.
Day three is both the Teide day and the hotel transfer. Drive through the caldera, stop at the lava landscapes that still interest the group, then descend the TF-24 toward Puerto de la Cruz while there is daylight. A sunset viewpoint is a bonus when weather and energy allow, not a reason to hurry across the mountain.
Sleeping in the north makes Loro Parque much easier and leaves a separate day for Icod and Garachico. Masca stays optional: add the viewpoint only if the road, parking and return still feel comfortable.
The route returns south through La Laguna, a short Anaga forest walk and protected Las Teresitas. For meals, use family-friendly food stops near the day's route; when the ocean changes the plan, switch beaches with the Tenerife beach guide instead of adding another long drive.
The Golden Rule for Family Days
Use the island in sequence: south arrival, south parks, Teide crossing with a TF-24 sunset viewpoint, northern stay with Loro Parque, north-west sights, northeast return, and south departure. Long drives serve the journey instead of interrupting it.
Smooth Flow
Cross Teide with your luggage and plan one TF-24 sunset viewpoint before the final descent north, while there is still enough daylight for a calm hotel check-in.
Family Pace
Give headline attractions like Siam Park and Loro Parque clean, dedicated days so kids can explore without feeling rushed.
Flexibility
Easily swap open ocean spots for sheltered golden bays like Las Teresitas or shaded botanical gardens whenever weather shifts.

Practical Decisions
Base
Starting in the south for arrival and Siam Park, then staying 2 nights in Puerto de la Cruz for Loro Parque and the north, saves hours of driving.
Tickets
Reserve Siam Park and Loro Parque advance tickets to skip entry queues and plan show schedules beforehand.
Mountain
Pack jackets and sunscreen in the car. At 2,000 metres, temperature drops quickly and roadside lookouts offer incredible vistas without hard hiking.
Recovery
Family trips succeed in quiet moments: ice cream breaks, clean restrooms, early dinners, shade, and evenings with zero driving.
Day 1 / arrival
Start your holiday gently. Pick up your rental car, check child seats, grab fresh supplies, and celebrate arrival with a warm, calm swim on the south coast.
south airport -> Costa Adeje / Los Cristianos / Alcalá
night: south Tenerife; keep the first drive short

Keep in mind
Adjust child booster seats, take quick walkaround photos of the vehicle, confirm fuel terms, and load your bags comfortably before setting off on the highway.
A south or south-west base makes your first night effortless: short airport transfers, flat stroller-friendly promenades, pharmacies, and casual seaside dining within easy reach. Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, and Alcalá are the easy family-base zone.
Ease into island time on a sheltered, breakwater-protected beach. Las Vistas offers wide golden sand, gentle water, and ice cream spots; Camisón is shallow and tranquil.
Enjoy a relaxed dinner near your hotel and pick up car essentials for the days ahead: bottled water, fresh fruit, breakfast items, high-SPF sunscreen, and snacks. If you want a real table rather than supermarket food, use the options below around Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos.

Day 2 / waterpark
Dedicate a full, relaxed day to Siam Park. Staying nearby in the south means no morning rush—just slides, lazy rivers, and shaded family loungers.
south base -> Siam Park -> quiet south evening
night: south Tenerife

Keep in mind
Head in right at opening to claim shaded loungers, organize lockers, and apply sunscreen before morning entry lines grow.
Take slow laps around the tropical lazy river and pause for a shaded lunch break to keep energy steady and avoid afternoon sun fatigue.
Unwind after a big water day with an easy dinner along the promenade, a quick Siam Mall treat, or a quiet evening at your hotel pool. Keep it close; this is not the evening for a long restaurant detour.

Day 3 / volcano
Pack your bags for a scenic journey up Mount Teide. Explore the volcanic caldera, walk among lava towers, then descend TF-24 toward Puerto de la Cruz with time for a sunset viewpoint stop.
south -> Teide National Park -> Roques de García -> TF-24 sunset viewpoint -> north base
night: Puerto de la Cruz or nearby north base

Keep in mind
Pack fleeces and comfortable shoes in the boot. As you ascend toward 2,000 metres, pine scent gives way to crisp mountain air and panoramic volcanic views.
Immerse the kids in an otherworldly landscape of pale pumice plains and dark lava flows. The sheer scale of the Teide caldera is striking right from road-level lookouts.
Walk the easy loop around Roques de García. It gives children a real sense of exploration without requiring steep climbs or endurance hiking.
Drive down TF-24 toward La Esperanza and Puerto de la Cruz before it gets dark. For the best sunset views, aim to reach Mirador de Chipeque, Mirador La Tarta, or Mirador de La Crucita about 45-60 minutes before local sunset; in winter that can mean around 17:30-18:15, while in summer it is closer to 20:15-20:45.
Day 4 / north-west
Keep this north-west day realistic with children. Icod and Garachico are enough for a satisfying day; add an upper Masca viewpoint only if the weather, daylight, and backseat mood are genuinely good.
north base -> optional upper Masca viewpoint -> Icod -> Garachico -> Puerto night
night: Puerto de la Cruz or nearby

Keep in mind
Masca is beautiful, but it is not a casual shortcut from the north: reaching the upper viewpoints means climbing back into the mountains and dealing with slow serpentine roads. If everyone has energy, stop at Mirador de Masca for the ravine panorama; do not feel obliged to descend into the village.
For most families, Icod is the smarter first real stop: a compact old-town walk, the famous Dragon Tree, a coffee break, and then an easy continuation toward Garachico.
Wander Garachico's charming plazas rebuilt after a 1706 lava flow. See the El Caletón lava rock pools, taking a dip if the ocean is smooth and calm. For food, keep lunch close to the old town or use a nearby guachinche-style stop before the drive feels long.

4.8(5)
Restaurant Fungi's in Garachico: small sea-view restaurant for prawns, steak, mushrooms, truffle mash, gluten-free notes and personal service.

4.7(3,230)
Mi Guachinche Casa Pedro in Los Realejos: Canarian guachinche for local wine, traditional dishes, generous portions and friendly service.
Return to your northern base in Puerto de la Cruz. Sleeping nearby means you'll wake up refreshed just minutes from Loro Parque tomorrow morning.
Day 5 / animals
Waking up in Puerto de la Cruz makes Loro Parque effortless. Enjoy the park from a nearby base, then keep the evening local and flexible instead of adding another long drive.
Puerto de la Cruz -> Loro Parque -> Botanic Garden / seafront
night: Puerto de la Cruz or nearby

Keep in mind
Savor a relaxed breakfast near your hotel and reach Loro Parque's entrance right as gates open, completely avoiding long highway commutes.
Spend the day wandering Loro Parque's lush orchid gardens, visiting Planet Penguin, watching educational animal presentations, and enjoying child-friendly play zones.
Unwind under the cool canopy of giant ficus trees at the historic Botanical Garden or stroll along Puerto's dark-sand oceanfront promenade for ice cream.
If everyone still has energy, choose a simple north-coast dinner nearby; a traditional guachinche can work well, but only if it fits your children’s timing and appetite after the park. The cards below cover easy Puerto breakfast, gelato and relaxed dinner options, so you can choose by mood instead of driving again.

Day 6 / return
Return south through the north-east: the historic streets of La Laguna, a short walk in Anaga's laurel forest and an easy afternoon at protected Las Teresitas.
La Laguna -> Anaga -> Las Teresitas -> south
night: south Tenerife

Keep in mind
Take a morning stroll through La Laguna's pedestrian center, admiring colorful 17th-century courtyard mansions and grabbing coffee at an outdoor cafe. If the group needs food before Anaga, use the compact options below rather than gambling on a late mountain lunch.

Day 7 / departure
Keep departure day light and stress-free close to TFS airport. Enjoy a compact animal visit, a calm final ocean dip, and plenty of travel buffer.
Monkey Park -> Las Vistas -> TFS
final day: south Tenerife

Keep in mind
Visit Monkey Park, a small, shaded zoo near Los Cristianos where kids can see lemurs and monkeys up close in under two hours without eating into your flight window.
Squeeze in one last swim on Playa de Las Vistas, a sheltered beach equipped with clean showers, changing facilities, and casual seaside cafes right off the sand.
An air-conditioned stop for lunch, last-minute souvenir shopping, or escaping peak afternoon sun before making the short drive to the airport.
Return your rental car at TFS with ample time for fuel stops, luggage sorting, and security queues without any last-minute airport rush.
Swaps
If children get warm, tired from winding roads, or the ocean gets rough, simplify early. A calm bay, garden, museum, or hotel pool is often the smartest choice.
North Rain
Enjoy Loro Parque, Jardín Botánico, MUNA museum in Santa Cruz, or Puerto's shaded plazas if northern clouds roll in.
Heat
Plan forest walks and outdoor park visits for the morning. Reserve hot afternoons for pool swims, shaded terraces, or quiet rests.
Road Fatigue
If mountain switchbacks tire the backseat, trim scenic detours and stick to one main park plus a local beach reset.
Family route questions
These are the smaller decisions that can make or break a family week: where to sleep, how hard to push the drives, and what to do when weather or tired children change the plan.
One south-coast base is easiest with small children, especially if pool time matters. Split the week only if your family handles packing well: a short north stay makes Loro Parque, Puerto de la Cruz and La Laguna much easier, but it adds one moving day.
Teide works well if you keep it short and warm: viewpoints, Roques de Garcia, simple walks and a clear lunch plan. Do not build the day around long hikes, cable-car pressure or late mountain driving if the children are already tired.
Yes, but avoid placing them back to back. They are both big, noisy, high-energy days. Put a beach, pool or slow town day between them if you want the week to stay pleasant.
Choose serviced south beaches first, read the flags every time and treat wild north beaches as photo stops unless conditions are clearly calm. A beautiful beach is not automatically a swimming beach.
A car makes the route much easier, especially for Teide, Anaga viewpoints and north-coast moves. Without a car, keep the plan around Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Siam Park, taxis and one or two guided or public-transport day trips.
