A small historic garden where giant tropical trees, aerial roots and two centuries of plant acclimatisation fit into an unhurried hour.
The garden began with a royal order in 1788: Tenerife’s mild north-coast climate was to help tropical plants adapt before they were sent on to mainland Spain. Planting started in 1792, and the pleasure today is in the mature specimens rather than flower-bed spectacle — huge figs, palms, bromeliads, tangled roots and old botanical labels packed into a compact, shaded plot. Allow 45–90 minutes and combine it with Puerto de la Cruz or La Orotava rather than treating it as a full-day attraction. As verified on 1 August 2026, it opens daily from 09:00 to 18:00, costs €3 and closes on 1 January, Good Friday and 25 December. There is no café to plan around, so bring water.
This works best as part of a north Tenerife day, with food, parking and weather planned together.
