About

Guachinche El Descarado is a La Orotava guachinche for a generous meat-led meal rather than a polished north-coast restaurant. Reviews point to beef steaks cooked on a hot plate at the table, ropa vieja with potatoes, croquettes, beef stew and cheesecake, with prices that still feel fair for the amount of food.

The room can be busy and noisy, and service is not always perfectly smooth when the place fills up. Come for local food, a lively guachinche atmosphere and a table that works well for groups; if you want a quiet dinner, choose a calmer night or arrive early.

Guest review summary

Commonly mentioned by visitors.

Beef steaks on a table hot plate and ropa vieja are the strongest reasons to order.

Portions are generous enough that guests mention taking meat home.

Friendly staff and a lively room make it feel like a real guachinche meal.

It can get noisy and service may lose rhythm when the room is busy.

We ended up coming back to this place four times during our stay, which probably says everything!

The food is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed and authentic. A special mention goes to the beef steaks, they were absolutely delicious every time. We also loved the concept of having a hot plate at the table, so you can cook the meat exactly to your preference, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable.

This became our go-to spot during the trip, and we would happily return again.

Highly recommended!

A good visit with decent prices and good quality food.

I did get a starter (the cod & sweet potato stir) which as excellent, the beef stew with fries savory and tender with just the right amount of mushroom sauce. The both are competitively priced and a grwat bang for the buck. The cheesecake, whilst a bit more on the expensive side for Canary prices was pretty good too.

Service was attentative at first, sadly though as the evening drew on we waited longer and longer to order dessert and for the bill, I got up and went to the counter after waiting ten minutes for a waiter to walk by. This is not a complaint, as I know it can be though to work in this business, but I know some who read this may care. I simply get up and walk over 5 meters and pay, not an issue for me. Staff was really friendly as well. Certainly will visit again.

We tried El Descarado the other day. It was a place I found online a while back, liked the location and went to see but it looked run-down and closed. Fast forward a few months and the place was packed, I found out from two fantastic Argentinian ladies seated next to us that it had recently shifted hands so that might explain why it looked the way it looked on my first visit. However, the food and service were top notch. We got served by Oliver, who had a fabulous keen eye and was very accommodating, he sets the bar high. I was with my dad, he got the Ropa Vieja dish (with potatoes, that was a novelty), and I got some house Croquetas and then the meat dish par excellence, the chuleta de carne de vaca. The ropa vieja was a big dish, a lot of chickpeas, meats and as mentioned potatoes (cut in squares, looked lightly fried). The Croquetas were made with some ham, sweetcorn pieces and pine (yes, pine). Interesting but not something i will order again. The meat, it was a huge portion (remember I was with my dad) so we took most of it home (and I enjoyed it today and will kill off the last remnants tomorrow). I ordered the meat with French fries. I love the fact that you can cook it y

Food was amazing! Very tasty! Service was poor, we were broght food that we didn't order and they took ours to another table, mixing orders most of the time.
