About

Restaurante Roque las Animas is a practical local lunch stop after Anaga routes, with stewed goat and octopus as the clearest signature orders. Canarian potatoes with mojo, grilled cheese and fresh fish round out the table in a way that feels rooted in the area.

The terrace and roadside setting make sense when you are already moving through the mountains. Menu availability and execution can be uneven, and one review reports greasy fish and a hygiene concern, so order the local strengths and keep expectations realistic.

Useful before you go

This food stop is strongest when it solves the route around it, not when it becomes a separate detour.

Drove here after a long hike to have an evening meal. Experienced great service, the gentleman that served me was very happy and friendly, I had half a portion of goat meat and half a portion of octopus to try both signature dishes. Both were very tasty and of excellent quality. I highly recommend stopping by here if you’re in the area. Views from the terrace are lovely too.

Great spot, although it’s on the side of the road there are plenty of parking spaces. And this is the only restaurant in the city working on Sunday. When we came it was full and waiters were running around like crazy and still this was really fast service and everyone was really nice. The food was great, grilled goat cheese, garlic prawns, grilled fish. Absolutely a must try – grilled octopus. Just beautiful.

We had an amazing lunch at Restaurante Roque Las Ánimas in Taganana. From the first minute, the atmosphere felt warm and authentic. We ordered the stewed goat meat, grilled cheese, and a fresh fish of the day. Everything arrived perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The stewed goat was rich, tender, and seasoned exactly the way it should be. The fresh fish tasted incredibly clean and truly fresh, with a beautiful texture. But the real star of the meal was the grilled cheese. Honestly, I rate it 75/10, without any doubt. It was crispy on the outside, soft inside, and simply addictive. You can tell they care about quality and local tradition here. We also tried the local Canarian coffee Barraquito, and it was the perfect finish. It’s sweet, strong, and feels like a small dessert in a cup. The service made the experience even better. The gentleman who served us brings such a positive energy and good vibe that it lifts the whole place. If you’re in Taganana, this spot is an absolute must-visit and we will definitely come back.

We ended up here because we initially couldn’t find parking at Roque Las Bodegas and am glad we did because we had the best Canarian potatoes and mojo sauce here!

The potatoes were served hot, and was well seasoned and soft on the inside. Their way of cooking the potatoes created a nice wrinkly salty skin and a creamy interior that made for a delectable potato, even without the sauce.

And the mojo sauce! Please do get it as it is absolutely delicious. We had 2 servings of it! Fair warning that it is a tad spicy. It was also garlicky and provided a mouthful of umami flavour. The ingredients were also well blended such that when mixed with the oil, the sauce was of a smooth texture. We completely cleaned both bowls of sauces not just with the potatoes, but the bread too.

That said, we are giving 4/5 stars because of the lack of clear pricing on the menu (we had to clarify the cost of the potatoes which is 7€, and sauce of 0.50€) and only found out at the end that the fried octopus was 15€. We didn’t order the bread but was served anyways (thankfully it was affordable and was enjoyed with the mojo sauce). And whilst the fried octopus was well cooked, it didn’t feel the freshest and

We recently visited this restaurant and, unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We ordered fish, goat meat, tuna croquettes, grilled cheese, and potatoes. The fish was greasy and fell apart easily, and the meat dishes did not appeal to us. To make things worse, I found a hair in my portion of meat. The only item we truly enjoyed was the grilled cheese. Additionally, half of the menu was unavailable, which limited our choices significantly.

Overall, we left unsatisfied and would hesitate to return.
