La Tapería

We visited La Tapería on our very first day after landing, and honestly, it felt like a stroke of luck. Almost everywhere else was closed, but they were open and welcoming. Since we had already eaten plenty of meat back in the UK, and knowing the island is known for its fresh seafood, we decided to try the octopus. That turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. The food impressed us so much that we went back the very next day. This time, we ordered the paella and a seafood platter for two, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant was only a three-minute walk from our hotel, but after such a hearty meal, even that short distance felt like a marathon—we were genuinely tempted to take a taxi. Of course, I couldn’t resist dessert. My husband opted out, but he encouraged me to go for it, and I didn’t want to be rude when the staff recommended the cheesecake—which, interestingly, wasn’t quite a traditional cheesecake. By that point, I was so full I could barely think straight, but it was absolutely worth it and delicious to the very last bite. Really enjoyed all the tapas dishes here. The portions are perfect for two people to share, but would also work well for four. We ordered ciabatta with tomatoes, Padrón peppers, calamari, Iberian chistorra in apple cider, Iberian ribs with sweet potato purée, and the Basque cheesecake. We enjoyed every dish.

The sauce for the Padrón peppers had a special smoky flavor that we really liked. The Iberian ribs were a bit salty for my taste, but paired very well with the creamy purée. The caramel served with the cheesecake was a small highlight — absolutely delicious.

We are tapas hunters 🤩 This place is so special, creating delicious fresh tapas we have not seen before and some classics in a slightly new way. All so good! We had so many “OMG this is good” moments 💃🕺🏻 You might want to book table 😎

We made a reservation here, and the space was lovely. The stained glass was really pretty at the end of the day. We were pleasantly surprised that the staff spoke excellent English, but quickly realized that there were a lot of English speakers dining here. (Admittedly it felt a bit strange to hear other American accents.) The food reflected the heavy tourist traffic, and the portions were huge!

The focaccia they served was delicious! The day we were there, staff wasn’t particularly friendly. There must have been a shift change and whoever took over our table seemed a bit put out. But the person who greeted us, and the one who took our order initially and answered our questions were both nice.

That said, I could have skipped this spot. There are lots of great food options around the town.
