About

Avila-Tei is a Santa Cruz Japanese restaurant built around precise sushi, makis and sashimi rather than a huge menu. Reviews praise fish quality, balanced flavours, careful presentation and a sushi pizza roll where the salmon is described as especially soft. Reservations are handled smoothly, with booked tables ready on arrival.

The practical warning is digital access. One visitor says the restaurant refused a physical menu and did not help with wifi when the online menu would not load. If that would frustrate you, make sure your phone has reception before sitting down.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We made a reservation beforehand and, when we arrived, they already had our table prepared, a detail that is always appreciated and shows good organization.

The service was very attentive throughout the meal. The waiter was on top of everything at all times and, on top of that, recommended that we change one of the dishes for another option that ended up being a complete hit.

The food was spectacular. The makis were, without a doubt, among the best things we tried: very high-quality fish, incredible texture, and a very balanced flavor. The sushi pizza deserves a special mention; it was impressive. The salmon was so soft it seemed like butter and it combined perfectly with the rest of the ingredients.

The presentation of the dishes was also very carefully done, and everything arrived at the table at the right times.

As the only point to improve, we missed them having coffee so we could finish the meal perfectly.

Overall, a very positive experience. We will definitely repeat to keep trying more dishes from the menu. 🍣👌

They denied a physical menu, even though there is no reception to see the online menu and the waiter didn’t care to find out the wifi password to be able to see the menu. In general the waiter was quite bad mannered. They basically pretended we knew the menu before going into the restaurant.
