About

El Tejado is a small family-run restaurant in Costa Adeje with a homely interior, quirky hat decorations on the ceiling and a genuine sense that the family running it wants you at their table. Homemade paella with a distinctive crisp edge, Canarian potatoes, Padron peppers and small fried fish are the dishes visitors return for.

Feedback is not entirely uniform: most visits describe generous, well-seasoned food and warm service, though at least one reviewer found the seasoning heavier than expected and the paella portion smaller relative to the price. Booking ahead is worth it either way, since the small room fills up, especially around 7pm.

Guest review summary

Commonly mentioned by visitors.

Paella is repeatedly described as one of the strongest in Costa Adeje, with a crisp edge and proper seafood flavour.

Canarian potatoes, padron peppers and small fried fish are the standout sides.

The small family-run room feels warm and personal rather than anonymous.

Book ahead for busy dinner hours; one guest found the seasoning too salty and the paella small for the price.

If you’re looking for an exceptional paella in Tenerife, this restaurant is a must-visit. It’s honestly the best paella I’ve had on the island: rich, flavorful, and very generous, perfect for sharing between two people and incredibly satisfying. We started with a typical local appetizer: Canarian potatoes served with a variety of sauces, absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Then came the paella well-seasoned, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. To finish, we enjoyed a lovely slice of apple pie served with ice cream, a dessert that perfectly completed the meal. Beyond the food, the kindness and friendliness of the staff really stood out. A truly great dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing food and a satisfying meal.

We visited for the second time on a week - which with the abundance of restaurants in Costa Adeje should be all I need to say. The ambiance of this little family restaurant is great and the staff really do make it feel like you are just visiting their family for dinner. The interior design also resembles a home and the hats on the ceiling are a lovely quirky touch! The food is amazing to say the least - by FAR the best I have had anywhere in Costa Adeje. The paella is delicious, homemade and has that signature (and delicious) crunch on the sides. The tapas are great and the portion sizes are very generous. The Padron Peppers, the small fried fish and the canarian potatoes are definitely the stand-outs. Make sure to book because the place is not large (which makes it even better to be honest)! ¡Gracias por buscarnos una mesa ayer! ¡Nos gusta mucho su restaurante!

I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. The Spanish cuisine is truly exceptional. We visited several restaurants, and I can confidently say this one was by far the best. My son, who normally doesn’t eat seafood at all, actually started enjoying it after dining here. Thank you so much -we’ll definitely be coming back!

This is the BEST restaurant in Adeje. After long and painful, investigation in the city we found this. Local delicious food, exceptional and friendly service in a beautiful interior. We visited this place 5 times and are looking to come back after we return to the island.

We had the seafood paella, garlic shrimps and meatballs. Everything was so salty to our liking. Especially the rice and the sauce of the meatball. However during our meal we also saw most customers are older adults, so maybe the seasoning is adjusted based on the usual customer base. The paella portion was also quite small as well based on the price but the shrimps are very fresh. I think it is enough to just order seafood paella, no need to order extra seafood in my opinion. We drove 20-minute to this restaurant because of the good reviews, but I think there might be other options out there if you are driving. Perhaps this is a good choice in the area! However, the service was nice! A note that you may want to reserve for busy dinner hours (7pm)
