Anaga’s historic village between terraced slopes and the wild north-east coast, best used as the slow middle of a forest-to-sea day.
Taganana is more than the road to Benijo. Founded in 1501, it is the oldest settlement in Santa Cruz municipality, with white houses scattered across a steep valley that still carries vineyards and small farm terraces. In the centre, the church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves dates back to the early 1500s and preserves a 16th-century Flemish triptych; go inside only if it happens to be open rather than building the day around fixed access. Then stop for fish, Canarian potatoes, cheese or local wine before continuing to Roque de las Bodegas, Almáciga or Benijo. Choose one or two coastal stops, not all of them. Parking is limited, the bends are tiring and ridge fog can turn into bright coastal sun within the same hour.
This stop can be brilliant, but road time, weather and the order of the day matter more than the pin on the map.
